Rawalpindi Sit-in against Benazir Government & Corruption

All political parties in Sudan agreed upon a new parliamentary system of government. A major ceremony was held at which the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan participated as chief guest and delivered an address.
On 24 June, a sit-in was held in Rawalpindi against corruption by the Benazir government. Indiscriminate police firing resulted in the martyrdom of three workers and injuries to 70 others. Nationwide Days of Protest were observed on 25 June and 3 July in memory of the martyrs.
A three-day gathering of members of Jamaat’s Women’s Wing was held on 4 July.
An All-Parties Conference was held on 6 August under the chairmanship of the Ameer-e-Jamaat.
On 24 August, Ameer-e-Jamaat Senator Qazi Hussain Ahmad resigned from the Senate.
During 168 days, the Ameer-e-Jamaat undertook 229 visits to cities and towns across the country and addressed public gatherings, bringing the demand for accountability to the forefront of national discourse.
A sit-in against the Benazir government was held on 27 and 28 October.
On 5 November, President Farooq Leghari dissolved the assemblies.
Deputy Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Khurram Murad passed away in London on 20 December.
Following the electoral victory of Necmettin Erbakan’s Refah Party in Türkiye, the Ameer-e-Jamaat visited Türkiye as chief guest, addressed a conference of leaders of international Islamic movements, and met world leaders.
