Demonstrations Against the visit of the Indian PM

  • Protest demonstrations were held on 15 January to mark Yaum-ul-Quds.
  • A Kashmir Jihad Week was observed throughout the country from 30 January to 5 February.
  • Nationwide demonstrations were held on 20 February against the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Pakistan.
  • The Ameer-e-Jamaat led a major demonstration on Mall Road, Lahore.
  • Although the government had laid a red carpet from Wagah Border to Minar-e-Pakistan, Jamaat’s strong protest resulted in Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee being transported by helicopter to Governor House.
  • During a gathering in Lahore on 21 February, the police surrounded and arrested hundreds of workers and leaders.
  • After subjecting them to severe violence, the police transported them in prison vehicles and detained them in different jails across the country.
  • A Day of Protest was observed on 26 February to demand the prisoners’ release.
  • From 4 to 6 March, the Ameer-e-Jamaat led an Accountability Caravan from Lahore to Rawalpindi.
  • From 11 to 16 April, an Accountability Caravan train march was led from Peshawar to Karachi by Acting Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan.
  • Major public gatherings were held at every major railway station.
  • A rally for the protection of the ideology of Pakistan was held at Minar-e-Pakistan on 23 March.
  • On 8 March, the Ameer-e-Jamaat went on leave because of ill health and surgery.
  • On 28 May, gatherings and protest programmes were organised throughout the country for the protection of Pakistan’s nuclear programme.
  • A three-day All-Pakistan public gathering of women was held.
  • A two-day Shabab-e-Milli convention was also held.
  • A Day of Protest was observed on 6 July to express solidarity with Kashmiris and oppose the Nawaz-Clinton Declaration.
  • Kargil rallies and major public gatherings were held in Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta and Lahore.
  • An unprecedented women’s rally in support of the Kashmir jihad was held in Islamabad on 22 August.
  • A three-day public gathering of Islami Jamiat-e-Talibat was held.
  • Organisational gatherings and conventions of office-bearers were held in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and the Frontier Province.
  • Salat-ul-Istisqa was offered at Mansurah in response to the country’s severe drought, and the Ameer-e-Jamaat delivered an address.
  • Nationwide demonstrations were held to express solidarity with the oppressed Muslims of Chechnya.
