Jihad in Kashmir & Kashmir Day

  • Arrangements were made for the accommodation, food and training of Kashmiri Mujahideen upon their arrival. Assistance was provided in preparing the framework of the jihad movement in Kashmir.
  • Kashmir Solidarity Day was first time observed nationwide on 5 February, accompanied by Kashmir jihad rallies, Kashmir conferences and an International Kashmir Conference. Religious scholars issued a unanimous fatwa declaring the Kashmir jihad obligatory upon all Muslims.
  • Abdul Rashid Turabi was elected Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir decided not to participate in elections and to continue the jihad movement.
  • A farmers’ rally was organised in Lahore under Kisan Board, with 25,000 farmers participating.
  • Jamaat contested the elections from the platform of the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad. Jamaat representatives won eight National Assembly seats and 19 provincial assembly seats. Jamaat decided not to accept any ministries.
  • A Week for the Prevention of Social Evils was observed throughout the country from 11 to 18 July.
  • A nationwide protest movement was launched against the repeal of the law of Qisas and Diyat.
  • A Charter of Demands was presented to the government, calling for the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad to be made organised, active and effective; the Shariah Bill to be passed by Parliament without delay; the recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology to be implemented immediately; and constitutional amendments to be introduced to make the Federal Shariat Court more effective.
