Education Policy Campaign

A campaign was conducted against the government’s proposed education policy, and the Central Majlis-e-Shura presented the following demands:
- The National Education Policy 2009 should be presented before Parliament for debate and prepared on comprehensive and stable foundations under the supervision of the country’s leading educationists.
- Measures should be taken to Islamise Pakistan’s education system in accordance with Article 31 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
- The Education Act 1976 should be incorporated into the education policy, ensuring that no material contrary to Islam is included in curricula or textbooks.
- The curriculum and the entire educational process should promote Pakistan’s foundational ideology, national identity, national outlook and Islamic culture and civilisation.
- Urdu should be adopted as the medium of instruction, while high-quality teaching of English and Arabic should also be ensured.
- Arabic should remain a compulsory subject, and the subject of sex education should be removed.
- At least five percent of national income should be allocated to education.
- Students in colleges and universities should be provided platforms for collective activities to develop leadership qualities, and their democratic rights should be restored.
