Abolish the Petroleum Levy

Fuel Should Move the Economy, Not Carry an Unfair Tax Burden

مہم کی تفصیل

The cost of petrol does not remain at the petrol pump. It travels through transport, agriculture, food prices, industry, education and household budgets.

JI's 2026 campaign has progressed through several phases: nationwide demonstrations in May and June, further protests on July 10, and a call for nationwide highway blockades and sit-ins on August 7. Before the August mobilisation, JI announced 20,000 corner meetings and demanded abolition of the petroleum levy, lower fuel prices, action on costly IPPs and wider relief from inflation. The Larger Question

This campaign is not only about one fuel-price notification.

It asks:

Who bears Pakistan's tax burden? How much should essential mobility be taxed? Why should citizens pay more before unnecessary state expenditure is reduced? How should energy and taxation policy support economic stability rather than deepen uncertainty?

JI has called for abolishing the levy and substantially lowering petrol prices. The exact numerical demand has changed with fuel-market conditions, so the website should display it dynamically as a Current Demand, rather than embedding a permanent price target into the page. (Dawn)
