Jamaat-e-Islami announces nationwide strike on September 3

Addressing a sit-in in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said people have  come out to demand a reduction in petroleum product prices. He said  Jamaat-e-Islami would hold a nationwide strike on September 3 against  the levy.

“Our strike will be peaceful and not even a flowerpot will be broken,” he said.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said young people know how to organise a  strike. He said the party would approach traders and convince them to  join the strike, adding that he himself would meet traders.

He also announced a grand rally in Rawalpindi on August 30.

The Jamaat-e-Islami emir said their peaceful political resistance  should not be considered a weakness. If the people’s demands are not  accepted, the scope of the protest will be expanded, he warned.

He said all democratic options, including a long march and wheel-jam strike, are available to the party after the sit-ins.
