Hafiz Naeem Demands Major Relief in Fuel, Electricity and Gas Prices
Central Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has called for a substantial reduction in petroleum prices, lower electricity tariffs for industry, and a freeze on gas prices for at least three years. He said these measures are essential to reduce the burden on ordinary citizens and provide stability to businesses and consumers.
Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq, Hafiz Naeem said that the recent reduction in fuel prices was not enough to provide real relief to the public. He demanded that petrol should be brought down to Rs250 per litre, saying the current price structure continues to place pressure on families, workers, transporters, and small businesses.
Demand for Meaningful Public Relief
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that inflation, high utility bills, and rising business costs have made life increasingly difficult for the common man. He argued that the government must move beyond symbolic price cuts and take practical steps that directly reduce household expenses and industrial production costs.
- Petrol prices should be reduced to Rs250 per litre to provide real relief to citizens.
- The reduction in fuel prices should reflect the actual decline in international market rates.
- Relief must reach transporters, workers, salaried families, and daily wage earners.
- The government should stop passing the burden of mismanagement and taxes onto ordinary people.
Lower Electricity Tariffs for Industry
Speaking about the industrial sector, Hafiz Naeem said electricity tariffs for industry should be fixed at nine cents per unit, in line with the regional average. He said Pakistan cannot compete economically when industries are forced to operate with expensive power, rising input costs, and uncertain energy policies.
- Industrial electricity tariffs should be reduced to support production and exports.
- Lower power costs would help factories remain operational and protect jobs.
- Affordable energy is necessary for business confidence and economic stability.
- Regional competitiveness must be restored so Pakistani industry can grow.
Gas Prices Should Be Frozen
Hafiz Naeem also demanded that gas prices should be significantly reduced and then frozen for at least three years. He said frequent increases in gas prices create uncertainty for both consumers and businesses, making it difficult for families to manage household budgets and for industries to plan production.
He said a stable energy policy is essential for economic recovery. According to him, the government should protect citizens from sudden price shocks and ensure that energy remains affordable for households, small traders, and industrial users.
Focus on the Common Man
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said that economic decisions must be made with the common citizen at the center. He said people are already facing pressure from inflation, unemployment, expensive electricity, high fuel prices, and reduced purchasing power.
- Economic policy should prioritize ordinary families rather than elite interests.
- Fuel, electricity, and gas relief would directly reduce the cost of living.
- Industrial relief would help protect employment and support local production.
- Long-term price stability is necessary for public confidence and economic planning.
Looking Ahead
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urged the government to take immediate and serious steps to reduce fuel, electricity, and gas prices. He said meaningful relief is essential not only for the survival of ordinary citizens but also for the revival of Pakistan’s economy, industry, and public trust.
