Electricity should power homes, agriculture and industry, not become a recurring source of economic distress.
JI's national campaign against costly Independent Power Producer arrangements became a central demand of its 14-day Rawalpindi sit-in in July-August 2024. The sit-in ended after the government agreed to establish a task force on IPPs, electricity bills and taxation of the salaried class. JI subsequently continued pressing the government over implementation and has renewed demands in 2026 for the termination or renegotiation of contracts it considers excessively costly. (Dawn)
