Prof. Ghulam Azam

Biography & Religio-Political Contribution: Prof. Ghulam Azam (Rahimahullah) was the former Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and a pioneer of the Islamic movement in South Asia. He dedicated his life to establishing the narrative of Iqamat-e-Deen in a highly hostile political landscape, transforming JI Bangladesh into a potent ideological and social force. In his later years, he faced severe political victimization and died in judicial custody. 

Impact on the Ummah: Ghulam Azam resisted the aggressive onslaught of secular nationalism and foreign ideological interference in Bengal. He provided the Muslim youth of the region with an intellectual anchor, proving that true sovereignty belongs solely to Allah, thereby instilling the courage to resist state-sponsored secularization. 

Connection with Jamaat-e-Islami: His relationship with Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan was organic, as he served as the Amir of the East Pakistan wing before the separation. He was deeply attached to the thought of Maulana Maududi. JI Pakistan holds him in the highest regard as a symbol of unyielding commitment to Islam, organizing nationwide funeral prayers in absentia upon his passing and consistently condemning his trial.
