Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai

Biography & Religio-Political Contribution: Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai (Shaheed) was a lifelong vanguard of Jamaat-e-Islami J&K and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He dedicated over six decades to the Kashmiri freedom struggle, enduring years of imprisonment before ultimately attaining martyrdom in Indian police custody in 2021.
Impact on the Ummah: Sehrai epitomized unyielding Istiqamat (steadfastness). Even after the martyrdom of his militant son, he refused to shed a tear publicly or compromise with the Indian occupation, cementing the Kashmiri resistance as a sacred Islamic duty. He taught the Ummah that true leadership requires sacrificing one's own blood before asking it of the masses.
Connection with Jamaat-e-Islami: A direct ideological product of Maulana Maududi’s literature, Sehrai served as the Secretary-General of JI J&K and was the closest trusted companion of Syed Ali Geelani. JI Pakistan exalts him as a monumental martyr of the global Islamic movement, organizing massive absentee funeral prayers and declaring that his sacrifices will inevitably lead to the dawn of Kashmir's liberation.
Urdu Publications: A prolific Urdu writer and poet, his profound essays on Islamic resilience, political consciousness, and resistance were regularly published in JI J&K’s official organ, the Azaan magazine.
